The second place went to Villu Plink and Silja Saarepuu from Estonia and the third prize was won by Lithuanian artists Jurgita Erminait\u00e9-\u0160imkuvien\u00e9le.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All three prize winners clearly present the leading idea of the main exhibition, time difference. They all showcase engagement with the past, present and future; all works make visible also the geological time. Photo: Liina Lelov<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The series of utensils made of polished precious stones titled \u201cCultured manners\u201d by Belgian artist <strong>Octave Vandeweghe<\/strong> verges on the lines of functionality and beauty. In the words of the jury, it brings together hi-tech and low-tech, synthetic and natural. \u201cThe work presents hints to functionality, at the same time being impractical, and it also contains tension between made and found objects,\u201d said the international jury. Authors Villu Plink and Silja Saarepuu.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The second prize was awarded to <strong>Villu Plink<\/strong> and <strong>Silja Saarepuu<\/strong> for their video \u201cCarpet\u201d showing the endless process of ploughing a field into a carpet. \u201cIt is a whimsical, light hearted, grounded work with multiple layers that also brings together traditional and modern techniques and media,\u201d remarked the jury. Photo: author<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The third award was given to Lithuanian artist <strong>Jurgita Erminait\u00e9-\u0160imkuvien\u00e9t<\/strong>, whose amber flypaper is titled \u201cIt\u2019s Only a Question of Time\u201d. The jury observed that the essence of this usually dirt-attracting everyday object is well captured and at the time transformed into something precious. \u201cAs the amber also contains ancient insects in its bubbles, the theme of capture is bringing different time scales together into a beautiful whole,\u201d remarked the jury.<\/p>\n<p>The jury was made up of Norwegian art critic and editor <strong>Andr\u00e9 Gali<\/strong>, Finnish jewellery artist and manager of Fine Arts in the Saimaa University of Applied Sciences <strong>Eija Mustonen<\/strong>, glass artist and Assistant Professor of Sculpture in the art field group at Pitzer College (USA) <strong>Sarah Gilbert<\/strong>, philosopher, critic and lecturer <strong>Eik Hermann<\/strong> and gallerist, translator and writer <strong>Keiu Krikmann<\/strong> from Estonia.<\/p>\n<p>The grand prix included an award fund of 2500\u20ac, the second and third prize respectively 1500\u20ac and 1000\u20ac.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/trtr.ee\/en\/main-exhibition\/\">The main exhibition of 7th Tallinn Applied Art Triennial \u201cAjavahe. Time Difference\u201d<\/a> at the Estonian Museum Applied Art and Design (Lai 17, Tallinn) is open until 23 July.
